This is a shoot from last month that I’ve been meaning to blog for ages. Those of you who follow my blog will know that I’m taking some time off photography to have a baby this year. The lack of shooting, however, has been driving me completely nuts. When you have a burning passion for something, it’s not that easy to just say goodbye to it for several months. So I decided to organise a shoot with a creative spin. Something that would fire me up and get the creative juices flowing again. For awhile I’ve been wanting to do an adventure shoot – I have a thing for girl-power action adventures. When I met Felissa on the Model Mayhem site, I knew she’d be perfect for the role. We spent several weeks talking back and forth about various ideas, gathering props and thinking about locations in and around Canberra. In the end, I think it all came together beautifully and I’m thrilled with the final images.

A huge thanks to our model, Felissa and her mum (www.modelmayhem.com/1535871), make-up artist Carmen (www.carmenfrancismakeup.com), and assistant, pack-mule, and all-round great guy Garry. What a fantastic team! I hope you guys enjoy this sneak peak. I’ll be mailing you the rest of the images very very soon.

I met Bec on the Essential Baby forum – our babies are due within days of each other so we have a lot in common. We’ve been talking back and forth over the last few months about anything and everything… it’s amazing how great friendships are born. When Bec asked me to take her maternity portraits, I jumped at the chance! I must admit that taking photos when heavily pregnant is an interesting experience – especially when the subject you are photographing is also heavily pregnant. There was a ton of grunting and groaning (from both of us!), especially when we tried to get up after taking the portraits on the floor. Heaven knows what the neighbours must have thought!

Thank you, Bec, for allowing me the priviledge of taking your maternity portraits. Here’s a sneak peak of my favourites.

With just over 10 weeks to go until my own baby makes his or her entrance into the world, I’m getting extremely clucky. And looking at my website, I could really use some up to date newborn images. Plus I’ve bought a few gorgeous new outfits and props in the last few months and am itching to try them out. So, I’m putting a casting call out there for any newborn babies in the Canberra area. If you have recently had a baby, or are due to pop soon, please let me know! The first 3 people to respond will get a FREE newborn portrait session (valued at $220) and a FREE 5×7 inch print (valued at $45). Sessions will need to be booked by mid-May at the latest.

All babies must be less than 14 days old at the time of the portrait session. The younger, the better. This is really important, as those first 2 weeks are what makes a newborn, well, newly born! Newborns are squishy, wrinkly, sleepy and they just make your heart go “Awwwwww”… OK OK I admit it - bigger babies make my heart go aw too… but after 2 weeks old, they have filled out, and tend to like stretching and staying awake for longer periods of time.

So – if you, or someone you know, would like to take advantage of this super-special, never-to-be-repeated, pregnancy-hormone-induced offer send an e-mail to rebecca.olsen@internode.on.net. The first 3 in my inbox win the freebies. Let the race begin!

Some of you may have been wondering what I’ve been up to these days with not many blog posts over the past few months. Well, the start of 2010 has seen our family make the move to Canberra, following hubby in his new job. We have finally managed to conquer the mountain of boxes to achieve a nice tidy house again, much to my relief.

And some great news – we’re expecting our family to expand in 2010!! That’s right, I’m currently 19 weeks pregnant; the baby is due on 12th June. We are all very excited, especially Jessica who is really looking forward to being a big sister.

I am offering portrait services in Canberra on a limited first-come, first-served basis in 2010. I will not be photographing at all during the months of May, June and July, so if you have a special event that you need portraits as gifts, please factor this into your planning.

And because I don’t like having a blog post without photos, here’s some of my favourite images from 2009:
